A Comparative Study of Participants and Nonparticipants in the Florida Beginning Teacher Program.
Gunter, Mary Nell
A study compared two groups of inexperienced teachers, one of which participated in the Florida Beginning Teacher Progam, and one which did not participate, to see if differences existed between the two groups. Study subjects were 154 first year teachers. The teachers who participated in the Florida Beginning Teacher Program were required to successfully complete a year-long program consisting of analytical observations and feedback, support, and assistance provided by a team composed of the teacher's building level supervisor, a peer teacher, and another professional educator. Teachers who did not participate in this program completed a traditional first year of teaching with no identified support system or training. This book presents the results of a study designed to determine the differences between the two groups in terms of: (1) behavior; (2) attitude; (3) self confidence; (4) intent to remain in the profession; (5) reemployability; and (6) effective teaching behaviors as exhibited by a performance measurement system.
