A descriptive update of the scholarship program at Miami-Dade Community College (MDCC) is provided for the period from 1979-80 to 1984-85. First, an introductory narrative describes the scholarships available to MDCC students, reviews previous research focusing on scholarship recipients, explains the report's purpose, analyzes data, and discusses reasons that some students lose their scholarship eligibility. The bulk of the report consists of data tables covering the number of students who received scholarship awards at each campus and collegewide; ethnic and gender statistics; achievement outcomes for each of the scholarship categories; the number and proportion of program completers; and the number of students who became ineligible for continuing scholarship benefits. Selected findings include the following: (1) overall, 3,718 students received some type of scholarship award over the 6-year period; (2) over 50% of all scholarship recipients were Hispanics, and 68% were females; (3) the mean GPA of the scholarship recipients was 3.20; (4) of all students in the scholarship programs, 41.7% had completed the associate in arts degree; and (5) 22.8% of the scholarship recipients were not able to meet the academic criteria for continued eligibility and had not graduated by 1984-85.
