The Future of Education: The Nature of Beliefs about Teaching.
Kreutzkampf, June
One hundred twenty-four prospective teachers completed a survey instrument at a small midwestern university on their beliefs about teaching. One premise of the survey was that prospective teachers are inclined to teach as they have been taught. Questions were raised on whether teacher educators teach a balanced view to men and women or reflect the old style of masculine dominance; in effect, teaching men to be different from women teachers and vice versa. This paper reflects on some of these basic differences and raises more questions concerning beliefs about teaching. Data from the survey are summarized, and the survey questionnaire is appended.
