Women Making History. Conversations with Fifteen New Yorkers.
Gold, Maxine, Ed.
The dreams and contributions of 15 outstanding New York City women are presented through interviews. The women are involved in various fields, such as the professions, the arts, business, sports, and politics. They also represent the diversity of cultures and nationalities of the city. The profiles provide examples of how women in the 1980s are living their lives, managing career and family responsibilities, and viewing themselves in relation to the world. The women (with subtitles about them), as well as the interviewers, are as follows: Dorothy Brunson: "The Making of an Entrepreneur" (Jacqueline Paris-Chitanvis); Ruth Clark: "Turning Every 'No' into a 'Yes'" (Marianne Ilaw); Laura Dean: "The Drive To Be Different" (Helen Benedict); Linda Down: "Charting a New Course" (M. Ilaw); Geraldine Ferraro: "Making National Political History" (H. Benedict); Charlayne Hunter-Gault: "Newsmaker, Newsbreaker" (M. Ilaw); Amalya Kearse: "A Judge with High Honors" (Roslyn Lacks); Paule Marshall: "Filling Silences with Strong Voices" (H. Benedict); Helen Rodriguez-Trias: "Mixing Pediatrics with Politics" (H. Benedict); Yolanda Sanchez: "A New York Activist with a World View" (J. Paris-Chitanvis); Muriel Siebert: "Playing the Numbers on Wall Street" (R. Lacks); Beverly Sills: "Undaunted and Undefeated" (H. Benedict); Ellen Stewart: "Founding Mother of La MaMa" (J. Paris-Chitanvis); "Garaldine Stutz: "She Minds the Store" (R. Lacks); and Chien-Shiung Wu: "A Life of Research" (J. Paris-Chitanvis). (SW)
