The curriculum guide for Alberta's nine-year French language program, which spans grades 4 through 12, includes the following components: a set of objectives reflecting the province's goals of basic education and a rationale to support the inclusion of French in a school program; specification of minimum expectations for each language skill (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and for cultural understanding for each of the three program segments (elementary, junior high, and senior high); specific performance objectives and linguistic content for each grade; specific minimum core content for all students and elective components for enrichment; and suggested teaching and learning strategies, time allotments, and evaluation procedures. Lists of learning resources (student texts) are provided for each of the three program segments and for each segment performance goals are cross-referenced by grade to the appropriate text. (MSE)
