Six-Year French Program. Curriculum Guide, Grades 7-12. [Revised.]
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton.
The curriculum guide for Alberta's six-year French language program, which spans grades 7 through 12 and is designed to increase program effectiveness through greater specificity, improved articulation, and increased instructional time, includes the following components: a set of objectives reflecting the province's goals of basic education and a rationale to support the inclusion of French in a school program; specification of minimum expectations for each language skill (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and for cultural understanding by the end of grade 12; specific performance objectives and linguistic content for each grade; specific minimum core content for all students; and elective components for enrichment. Lists of resource materials (texts) grouped by grade level are also included. The guide is presented in two sections: grades 7-9 and grades 10-12; for each section a table is provided in which performance goals are cross-referenced by grade to the relevant student text. Appended to the section for grades 7-9 are three essays: "Teaching and Learning Strategies" (W. A. Lazaruk); "Learning Strategies" (Madeleine Monod); and "A Guide to Evaluation in the French Program" (Douglas Parker). (MSE)
