Communicating Control in the Classroom and Satisfaction with Teaching and Students.
Plax, Timothy G.; And Others
Two studies explored the relationship between the use of the behavior alteration techniques (BATS) in the classroom and teachers' satisfaction with their profession and students. In the first study, 351 elementary and secondary teachers completed two instruments. In the second study, 326 college instructors completed the same two instruments. Results of data analysis revealed that BATS was a significant predictor of satisfaction for teachers at all levels of instruction. Elementary and secondary teachers' use of primarily antisocial BATs was negatively related to their satisfaction. College teachers' use of prosocial BATs was positively associated with their satisfaction. One explanation for this may be that more incidents of misbehavior occur at the elementary and secondary levels than at the college level. (DF)
