This population profile summarizes a range of demographic, social, and economic data collected by the Census Bureau during 1983 and 1984. Geographic coverage is primarily for the nation as a whole, although some demographic data at the State level are also included. The areas covered are as follows: (1) national population trends; (2) national population projections; (3) fertility, childspacing, and birth expectations; (4) state population trends; (5) metropolitan/nonmetropolitan populations; (6) farm populations; (7) migration; (8) households and families; (9) living arrangements and marital status; (10) school enrollment; (11) educational attainment; (12) the labor force; (13) occupation; (14) earnings by occupation and sex; (15) money income; (16) participation in government benefits programs; and (17) poverty. Each section makes extensive use of graphs and charts to illustrate the data and concludes with a list of sources and the name and number of a specialist who can answer technical questions.
