This document reports on a workshop on coral species present in Thailand and on the status of coral taxonomy in central Indo-Pacific countries. The report discusses workshop aims, summarizes field and laboratory studies, provides a tentative checklist of hermatypic coral species from Thailand, assesses the status of coral taxonomy in participating countries, and shows the distribution patterns of Indo-Pacific genera of hermatypic corals. The report also gives an account of a training course on coral taxonomy held concurrently with the workshop, which includes: (1) aims and participants' expectations; (2) course topics and field study sites; (3) notes on coral studied (comprising a major portion of the report); and (4) a summary of participants' reactions to the course. In addition, a summary of the report and (in appendices) names and addresses of participants, the introductory address, and the closing address are provided. (JN)
