Papers presented at a conference on comparative and international education, sponsored by the Australian Comparative and International Education Society, are collected in this document. The 26 papers are divided into three sections. The first section, entitled "Reflections on the Contribution of Comparative and International Studies to the Theory and Practice of Education," discusses the role and values of perspectives from the fields of comparative, international, development, and multicultural education. Research paradigms and methodologies are discussed, as well as issues of multiculturalism both within and among countries. The second section, "Schooling, Policies and Practices," has an international focus and for the most part does not address theoretical issues, but concentrates on a variety of educational policies and practices in different countries. Finally, the third section, "Colonialism and Education: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives," discusses colonialism and the transition of education models. (KH)
