Enhancing the International Dimension of Undergraduate Teacher Education (Mathematics): Vox Clamantis in Deserto?
Hill, Donald M.
Now is the time for educators to strengthen commitment to "global awareness" in colleges of education, professional organizations, the schools, and society itself. Ways to enhance the learning and teaching of mathematics by adding an international dimension are discussed. Areas which appear promising for the addition of an international dimension include: history of mathematics; comparative studies; word problems and applications; metrification; mathematical games; mathematics contests; and computers and technology. This dimension can be added through such instruments as: courses; foreign journals; materials from professional organizations; curricula; foreign visitors, students, and teachers; study abroad; and professional publications.
