The Social Sciences and the International Education of Prospective Teachers.
Anderson, Lee F.
The current shortcomings of preservice teacher education in the area of international education are addressed in this paper. It is emphasized that prospective teachers must develop a perspective consciousness, a sense of global dynamics, awareness of emergent human goals, and an awareness of ethical problems in a global context. A discussion is offered on the dynamics of relationships between national societies and the international society. A consideration of the future of teacher education explores ways in which to develop a curriculum that replaces a society-centric approach to the social sciences with one in which a world system perspective will be taught.
