IFLA and the Library World. A Review of the Work of IFLA, 1981-1985.

This review of the accomplishments of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) during the Medium-Term Programme 1981-1985 maps IFLA's professional activities in all fields in which the federation is active and provides information for those interested in the international development of librarianship. This account of IFLA's most recent 5 years of work is divided into three major sections. Part I, The Library World Reflected in IFLA, comprises the following sections: Prologue, The Library User, Library Materials, Bibliography and Cataloging, Library Management and Library Cooperation, and the Library Profession. Part II, IFLA at Work, comprises IFLA Structure and Organization, The Core Programmes, General Research Libraries, Special Libraries, Libraries Serving the General Public, Bibliographic Control, Collections and Services, Management and Technology, Education and Research, and Regional Activities. The final section contains a reference list of the 376 sources on which this survey is based and an author index to the references. (THC)
