Cognition Coding Manual: Interaction between Able-Bodied and Physically Disabled People.
Fichten, Catherine S.; Martos, John G.
The manual presents an emperically tested coding system for thoughts concerning interaction with same-sex able-bodied or physically disabled college students. Although the system was developed for use with written thought listing, it may be adapted to in vivo or audiotaped thought listing. Thoughts are coded both for valence (positive, negative) and focus of attention (self-referent, other-referent, situation-referent). The manual provides information on general rules, definitions, examples of each of the codes, as well as a male and female version of the questionnaire, Cognitive Role Taking Tasks. The items on this measure discribe frequently occurring interaction situations between able-bodied and wheelchair user students in the college context. Respondents are asked to quantify their feelings of comfort/discomfort in various settings and situations. (CL)
