The Iowa Assessment Model in Behavioral Disorders: A Training Manual.
Wood, Frank H., Ed.; And Others
The manual is intended to present professionally defensible and generally agreed on criteria for the identification of students with behavior disorders in Iowa. Six major topic areas are examined in separate chapters: (1) overview of behavioral disorders in Iowa (historical background, assumptions underlying definition, desired use of definition by professionals in Iowa); (2) characteristics of behaviorally disordered youth (the Iowa definition, programmatic considerations, cautionary notes); (3) decision making: eligibility and programming options (legal mandates, student needs, steps in quality decision making); (4) setting analysis (theoretical framework, procedural overview, and specific assessment procedures); (5) pupil behavioral data (formal systematic observations, behavioral rating scales, parental perceptions); and (6) individual trait data (assessment methods, projective techniques, self report measures). Each chapter includes a list of references; some chapters also include appendices. (CL)
