This publication provides background information and activity suggestions on air pollution and related environmental topics. Student projects and experiments which can be adapted at both elementary and secondary levels are also provided. Information is organized in three parts. Part I covers basic facts about air pollutants including the types, forms, and sources of the pollutants. Part II discusses the effects of specific pollutants and explains how these effects are studied. Behavioral objectives and test items with answers are provided for the teacher in the first two units. Part III contains supplemental information and additional student experiments and activities. Experiments in this section address meteorological aspects, human health factors, vegetation cases, and pollution control problems. Each experiment is formulated with: (1) an educational objective; (2) a materials list; (3) procedures; (4) a results section; and (5) discussion questions. (ML)
