Meeting the Challenge: The Supply of and Demand for Teachers of Mathematics and Science in Minnesota Secondary Schools. Conference Report.
In response to a growing concern regarding the supply of and demand for teachers of science and mathematics in Minnesota secondary schools, a conference was held in December 1982. It was intended to encourage collaborative initiatives among policy makers, classroom teachers, school administrators, school board members, college personnel, and representatives of business and industry in pursuing solutions to the problem. This report includes a summary of the key ideas offered by conference presenters, representative questions and comments expressed by conference participants, and a list of persons attending the conference. It is intended to serve as a resource for future continued dialogue. Questions and comments were grouped under the following categories: teacher licensure, education rule, business/education cooperation, college requirement and recruitment, and differential pay and teacher mobility.
