This volume contains 32 biology self-study learning packets designed primarily for Indochinese students in grades 9 to 12. The materials could be used by "English as a Second Language" teachers who may/may not speak one of the Indochinese languages, or by mainstream teachers who have a number of low-English-proficiency Indochinese students in their classes. Each packet contains subunits on various topics, following a traditional biology textbook format. Packet titles include: study of life; study of cells; the protist/plant/animal kingdoms; digestion, nutrition, circulation, plant roots/stems/leaves; reproduction and development; genetics; ecosystems; and others. Within the protist packet are subunits on viruses, bacteria, protozoa, fungi, and algae. Each packet contains a vocabulary list in English and Khmer (Cambodian), English text followed by Khmer text, diagrams with labels in both languages, and exercises (review questions, paragraph completion, true/false items, and/or word searches). It is also suggested that the materials would be useful for parent/child tutoring. (DH)
