Costs at U.S. Educational Institutions, 1984/85.
Institute of International Education, New York, NY.
Costs at U.S. educational institutions for 1984-1985 are identified. A listing of monthly maintenance rates (MMR) by college within each state covers room, board, and incidentals, and makes no distinction between on-campus and off-campus living. The MMR data and guidelines about additional expenses are for foreign students in typical full-time undergraduate and graduate programs. Another listing is presented of costs at about 1,000 schools, based on data obtained by the Institute of International Education's (IEE) 1984 Tuition, Fees, and Academic Calendar Survey. For each school, MMR data are presented on out-of-state and in-state tuition, fees, the type of academic calendar used and dates of each academic period (including summer sessions), registration dates, and credit loads. Additional fees required by foreign students but not of U.S. residents are also listed for each school by type and amount of fees. These special fees include required health insurance, special services or counseling fees, application fees and subcharges, advance deposits, and fees for credential evaluations. The system for determining MMR, which is based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics system, uses Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas, costs components (e.g., food, housing), inflation adjustment, and special foreign student adjustment.
