English Across the University Curriculum.
Cheong, Lee Kok
Curriculum developers and planners must realize that speaking, reading, writing, and related linguistic processes are instrumental in all areas of learning. In university departments, teachers of content subjects and language specialists should look at the curriculum as a whole. English specialists must institute a policy of language across the curriculum, and subject specialists need to be aware of the linguistic process by which students acquire information and understanding. The education of the students should be regarded as the responsibility of all academic staff within and across departments, not just of the individuals charged with teaching those students. Although this would be more difficult, it would be a more professional approach and would assure the success of language across the curriculum. (MSE)
