Designated Vocational Instruction: A Cooperative Process for Change. DVI Handbook.
Wisconsin State Dept. of Public Instruction, Madison.
The handbook reviews Wisconsin's use of the designated vocational instructor (DVI) in providing direct instructional support services for vocational educators and special education students enrolled in vocational education classes. DVIs facilitate cooperative relationships between special and vocational education at the local school level. Eight major categories of responsibility for the DVI in the local school setting are examined in separate chapters: (1) communication with parents, students, ancillary personnel, special educators, vocational educators, administrators, and guidance personnel; (2) consolidation of administrative support; (3) provision of inservice; (4) vocational assessment consideration; (5) effective placement of special needs students in vocational education classes; (6) development of vocationally related IEPs and skill mastery concerns; (7) competency-based instructional considerations; and (8) provision of instructional support. A final chapter briefly addresses such additional considerations as microcomputer application, local DVI evaluation, and effective time management. Resources in the form of activity/procedure suggestions, sample forms, and checklists are provided throughout. (CL)
