The Development and Analysis of the Adams Informal Inventory.

The paper reports on a longitudinal study of children 3, 4 and 5 years old to investigate deviation, development, and significant patterns of growth, specifically in reading. The authors posited one general construct--development--and attempted to analyze how the underlying traits related to reading unfolded in each child and how they were related to each other from their early beginnings at age 3. An inventory was developed based on a review of the literature and item analysis conducted. Component factor loadings were then ascertained to indicate the structure of the subtest itself in relation to other subtests. Future steps will include administering the instrument to a new population of young children at the same 6 month intervals. (CL)
