Business Education 10-20-30. Mini Courses. Optional Modules. Business Education Curriculum Guide.
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton. Curriculum Branch.
This curriculum guide is one of nine such guides developed for an Alberta high school business education program. These 16 modules may be used to enhance the subject area strand or to form these three-credit courses: recordkeeping, business calculation, business communication, dicta typing, and word processing. Introductory materials include a business education program philosophy, a list of learning principles applied to business education, a list of program objectives, a schematic overview of a business education high school program, course sequences, guidelines for structuring business education courses, and a business education matrix. These materials specifically for business 10-20-30 follow: an introduction, objectives, and flowchart of modules. These components are provided for each of the 16 modules: purpose and a chart that correlates topics with learning tasks and teaching notes. Module topics are recordkeeping 1, 2, 3 (personal finance, career recordkeeping 1 and 2); business calculation 1, 2, 3 (fundamental calculator use, personal applications, business applications); business communication (development, practice, integration); business research project; goal setting and career development in business; dicta typing 1, 2; word processing 1, 2; and business simulation. The guide also contains guidelines for student evaluation, lists of basic and recommended learning resources, and a correlation of course content with learning resources. (YLB)
