Strategies for Integration Career/Vocational Education into Existing ABE/GED & ESL Classes. Getting on the Right Track.
Irby, Terry R.
This paper presents strategies and methods for students to obtain the essential adult basic education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and career/vocational instruction, at the same time. A description is offered first of what was done in the Joliet Junior College ABLE Program and future plans for continuing and expanding career/vocational instruction in ABE, GED, and ESL classes. Section A contains portions of reports and memos that describe what was done, how it was done, and problems and concerns identified and addressed at each stage. Section B presents materials from a series of mini-workshops on various aspects of career/vocational education. Section C is an independent unit for instructors in effective use of the education training plan form to teach career/vocational skills to their classes. In Section D are included some actual exercises that were presented at the workshops. (YLB)
