Survey of Peace Research.
Peace Research Reviews, v9 n6 Oct 84
This bibliographic essay discusses peace research. There are four major sections. The first section discusses traditional peace research, i.e., research with relevance to world peace that was carried out before the term "peace research" became widely used. Emphasized are the disciplines of international relations, international organizations, and international law; the ethics of war and peace; the history and geography of war and peace periods; the economics of war, peace, and development; and the psychology, sociology, and anthropology of conflict, violence, and nonviolence. The second section examines quantitative-behavioral peace research, subdivided into themes such as the arms race theory, games and simulation, events, data analysis, crisis research, predictions of war, determination of war, the behavior of nations at the United Nations, and attitude studies. The third section deals with critical or radical peace research. The concluding section discusses peace proposals where emphasis is on policy implementation, e.g., disarmament, alternative international security systems, and world government. A listing of all research discussed in the essay concludes the publication. (RM)
