Elementary Science Curriculum Guide 1983.

This curriculum guide provides: (1) information on the philosophy of the elementary school science program in Alberta; (2) a list of eight general objectives for science education; (3) 11 statements which identify the desirable characteristics of an elementary science program; (4) a discussion of inquiry in elementary science, considering process skills, psychomotor skills, attitudes, and science concepts; (5) a discussion of program structure, considering core-elective format, recommended minimum time allotments, division specific objectives, learning resources, and recommended resources for electives; (6) program of studies (listing separately the division one core curriculum, division two core curriculum, and electives; and (7) information on organizing for instruction. Topic areas addressed in this last part include instructional strategies, allocation of time, classroom organization, classroom management, facilities and materials organization, outdoor studies, safety, and evaluation procedures and guidelines. Supporting materials (such as safety procedures and guidelines and information on controversial issues) are included in five appendices. (JN)
