Rice, R. Eugene
Faculty development projects funded by the Northwest Area Foundation are described. While some projects addressed retrenchment and the nature and structure of academic careers, others involved multi-institutional strategies. Types of projects and institutions are: new teaching and administrative competencies (College of Saint Scholastica, Mary College, Montana University System); preparing faculty to teach adults (Colleges of Mid-America, Marylhurst College for Lifelong Learning, Linfield College); career planning and professional growth contracts (Linfield College, Mount Mercy College); college planning and organizational development (Concordia College); alternative careers exploration (Council of Independent Colleges, University of Puget Sound); faculty development through statewide systems (Montana University System, North Dakota Board of Higher Education); regional consortia (Southwest West Central Consortium, Minnesota); faculty development through public/private cooperation (Winona Tri-College, University Consortium, Minnesota); Iowa Liberal Arts Project; and scholarship and faculty vitality (Carleton College and Saint Olaf College International Studies Project, Minnesota). Project contact persons and external evaluators are identified, and current faculty development resource materials are briefly described. (SW)
