Investigation of Role Influence in Child Study Teams.

A review of the literature and a detailed analysis of five specific studies on placement team functioning is presented. Among findings are a strong positive relation between staff role and participation (school psychologists were ranked highest on both variables while regular education teachers were ranked lowest) and a very powerful set of role expectations calling for more participation from school psychologists and special education teachers and less from regular education teachers and parents. Future implications for school psychologists are noted, including training in underlying theories of teams, the nature of decisionmaking processes, and the reaction of team members to the team experience. The importance of adding to the empirical study of teams is stressed. (CL)
