Presenting clear and concise guidelines for coordinators/trainers involved in the planning and implementation of orientation sessions for teachers and assistant teachers is the purpose of this manual. Beginning with introductory material concerning the purpose and goals of the reading improvement program and the roles served by assistant teachers, the manual consists of three main sections. The first section deals with planning for the preschool, three-day orientation sessions and the suggested agendas for each day. The second section contains six resources and four handouts for training activities, and section three contains evaluation forms for teachers and assistant teachers. The appendixes contain material on readiness, information on manuscript writing, and sample lesson plans. (EL)
