Teacher-made Aids for Elementary School Mathematics, Volume 2. Readings from the "Arithmetic Teacher."
Reesink, Carole J., Ed.
This document consists of 51 articles (originally published in the "Arithmetic Teacher") which provide teachers with ideas for manipulative aids and activities. Guidelines used to select articles for this collection called for them to have a clear purpose and be related to a contemporary topic in the elementary school mathematics curriculum, to provide sufficient information and specifications to enable teachers to construct the aid, and to include directions or examples relating the aid to classroom instruction. The articles are grouped into eight categories; (1) computational skills (sets and number relationships, place value, computation-whole numbers, rational numbers, and integers); (2) geometry; (3) measurement (metrics and English, money, and time); (4) graphs and charts; (5) probability and statistics; (6) problem solving; (7) everyday applications; and (8) multipurpose aids. (Articles dealing with games and puzzles are not included because of length onsiderations.) (JN)
