Behavioral Patterns in Mental Health and Mental Illness--Adults: PT IIA.
A description is provided of "Behavioral Patterns in Mental Health and Mental Illness--Adults," a course for nursing and psychiatric technician students on psychopathology, the dynamics of psychiatric disorders, and the behavioral patterns associated with these disorders. A glossary of instruction-related terms is followed by a course description, which lists major course goals and long-range course objectives; course units; materials of instruction, including required texts, supplemental materials, resources, and audio- visual materials; and notes on the course. The bulk of the paper consists of descriptions, goals, objectives, reading lists and sample test items for each of the following units: (l) Introduction to Behavioral Patterns in Mental Health and Mental Illness; (2) Observation and Understanding of Behavior; (3) Introduction to Maladaptive Behavioral Patterns and Approaches to Treatment; (4) Anxious Behavior; (5) Withdrawn/Schizophrenic Behavior; (6) Depressed Behavior; (7) Suicidal Behavior; and (8) Suspicious/Paranoid Behavior. The final sections explain how students will be evaluated, provide sample final exam questions, present the grading system, and outline procedures for revising the course.
