Designed for administrators, teachers, and parents of special students, the guide focuses on school safety plans in special education classrooms. A summary of a task force's recommendations on school safety is presented, followed by a list of regulations concerning security in the school and safety plans. Three typical sample school safety plans are presented for three types of school: (1) a regular intermediate/junior high school with special education classes; (2) a special education school; and (3) a school with deaf and multiply handicapped students. Plans address such topics as evacuation and emergency procedures, physical plant considerations, and key control. Thirty-one lessons are presented for teaching safety to a wide range of students. Information for lessons include educational objective, motivation, problem, vocabulary, material, and procedures. (CL)
