Writing is FUNdamental: Composition and Word Processing Curriculum.

The paper describes a computer/writing curriculum for hearing impaired and language disabled students which incorporates word processors with the process approach to writing. Such an approach emphasizes writing as a communication process and allows students to select their own writing topics and work independently or as a group. The curriculum is designed to improve vocabulary, logical thinking, practical application, and clear communication, and to help hearing impaired students view writing as interesting and fun. Approximately 30 objectives are listed with information broken down on skills, suggested teaching activities, and resource materials. Objectives include familiarization with the computer and word processor, use of different sentence types and patterns, completion of a narrative project, and use of different formats. The use of the word processor in evaluation through the conference process is considered. Sample learning activity packets for creative writing, descriptive writing, business and personal letters, and reports are provided. (CL)
