Chemistry 200 core topics include the periodic table and its elements, matter, organic chemistry, gases, and solutions; optional topics include chemistry of photography, energy, polymers, chemistry of food additives, and chemicals as drugs. Chemistry 300 core topics include electronic structure, bonding, and the periodic table; reaction rate and chemical equilibrium; ionic equilibrium (acids and bases); solubility; and oxidation/reduction reactions; optional topics include analytical chemistry, metallurgy, consumer chemistry, environmental chemistry, and the chemistry of food production. Provided for each of these topic areas is the rationale for its inclusion into the course, recommended time, and objectives (with each objective keyed to suggested activities and references). (JN)
