Reflecting the increasing complexity and sophistication in reading research, the papers in this collection represent a wide spectrum of approaches, philosophies, viewpoints, and techniques of scholarly endeavor in their treatment of reading research and instruction. Following an address, by the president of the organization, on reading comprehension research in search of classroom validation, the 36 articles presented at the 1980 meeting of the National Reading Conference are arranged according to the following categories: (1) strategies in reading, (2) orthography and reading, (3) theoretical concerns, (4) instructional concerns, (5) comprehension and test structure, (6) adjunct aides, (7) early reading, and (8) adult reading.
