The Greek, Haitian, Jordanian, Korean, Philippine, and Vietnamese educational systems are outlined and described to provide information about immigrant and nonresident students' educational backgrounds, and as an aid in evaluating the credentials earned by students in their own countries for placement in Chicago public schools. The information provided about each system includes, when appropriate: a sketch of its organization, for both general and vocational education; opening and closing dates; grading equivalents of A-F; compulsory years of schooling; the general academic curriculum content and proportions; typical upper secondary curriculum weekly time allotments for each course type; content of secondary school history, psychology, philosophy, civics, and mathematics courses at each level; a list of courses offered in vocational schools; cultural notes; useful educational and general vocabulary terms; and additional information sources.
