Gallup Summary Report.
Canadian Gallup Poll Ltd., Edmonton (Alberta).
This report contains a summary of results obtained from a Gallup Poll study of adults 18 years and over, which was conducted in May 1984 in Alberta, Canada. Data were collected through personal, in-home interviews with 1,054 adults. Because of a slight discrepancy in age and sex, all results were based on a weighted, proportionate sample. Questions asked of respondents fell in the following categories: (1) school attendance and contact; (2) overall attitude toward education in Alberta; (3) cost of education; (4) perceptions of grade 12; (5) student achievement; (6) operation of private schools, including government financing and regulation; (7) administration, including home schooling and schools for the handicapped; (8) curricula, including vocational education and perception of specific subjects as core, optional, or unnecessary; and (9) background information, including Alberta residency. A copy of the standard questionnaire used and information regarding sample characteristics, sample design, and sampling tolerances are appended to the report. In addition, a news release from Alberta Education about the Gallup Poll results is attached. This news release emphasizes the areas of secondary school program, mainstreaming handicapped and mentally retarded students, private schools, compulsory diploma examinations, and user fees. (CB)
