This Association of Research Libraries (ARL) kit on preservation of library materials contains: (1) descriptions of preservation programs and objectives from Boston University, the University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin, and University of California at Los Angeles; (2) a description of the Library of Congress' National Preservation Program and expectations for the program from University of California at Berkeley; (3) binding specifications from University of Connecticut, University of Missouri, and University of Massachusetts; and (4) planning documents for binding requirements from Washington University, University of Connecticut, Syracuse University, University of Georgia, and Dartmouth College. At the beginning, a concise summary of a 1977 survey of ARL members focuses on preservation planning, commercial versus in-house binding/restoration, other preservation efforts including microfilming, the National Preservation Program, and future trends.
