The enrollment of Mexican Americans in college, services to this population, and their achievements were studied in 1982, as a replication of a 1972 study. In addition to presenting comparable results of the two surveys, attention is directed to recent literature on Hispanic access and achievement as well as critical issues that need to be addressed. Information is provided on: total undergraduate and Mexican American enrollment in southwestern colleges in fall 1970 and fall 1980 by state and college type; factors that limit enrollment of Mexican American students, as reported by colleges; percentages of colleges using various strategies to recruit Mexican American students by type of college; average amounts of undergraduate aid available to institutions in 1971 and 1981 by college type; average estimates of grant, loan, and job aid awarded to Mexican American undergraduates in 1970 and 1980 by college type; ratings of possible problems affecting Mexican American students needing financial aid; percentage of colleges that provide various student support programs and services by college type; judged importance of factors that may affect academic achievement and attrition of Mexican American students; and average number of full-time Mexican American professional staff per institution.
