Biotechnician Needs Analysis.
Edwards, Charles W., III
The need for the development of a biotechnician curriculum was investigated. A search for operational job descriptions for biotechnicians was conducted. Industry consensus was that this is a generic term too broad to be useful. Biotechnology companies within a 300-mile radius of Chicago and universities and other colleges in Illinois that hire technicians were identified and contacted to determine labor force demand for technicians in biotechnology fields. It was determined that there is not sufficient need for associate degree technicians to warrant development of a biotechnician curriculum at this time. (Attachments, amounting to over one-half of the report, include questionnaires, questionnaire results by company and university, and data summaries.) (YLB)
