This bibliography, representing trends and progress in the field of nutrition education, is divided into six sections: (1) policy issues; (2) conceptual approaches; (3) baseline information and ethnographies; (4) case studies; (5) exemplary materials; and (6) evaluation. The section on case studies is subdivided into sections focusing on general studies and studies related to: Africa; Asia, the Near East, the Pacific; Europe; Latin America and the Caribbean; and North America. Entries (numbered consecutively from 1 to 384) include the title, source, publication date, number of pages, and annotation (some entries are not annotated). A geographic index and a topic index are included. Preceding the bibliography is an analysis of the state of the art in nutrition education, indicating that the literature of the last 5 years reflects a growing focus on participatory teaching and learning methodologies and on a commitment to using education and communications as interventions to change the attitudes, behaviors, and health and nutrition status of target group communities. The emphasis has shifted away from a concern with the simple dissemination of knowledge and information to the transmission of messages designed to improve health and nutrition-related behavior through reinforcing channels of communication.
