Computer Education: A Catalog of Projects Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, 1983.
Klein, Susan S., Ed.
This first catalog of computer education projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education presents summaries of 275 computer education projects, each of which includes an abstract and information on target audience, award amount, major products, project director, and Department of Education contact person. An introductory overview summarizes Department of Education activities by general type of activity; computer education projects by intended specific user population; extent of courseware/software development; and department offices. A departmental organization chart is included. Project descriptions are organized into five categories, beginning with projects focusing on development of students' computer literacy at the elementary and secondary levels, at the adult and postsecondary levels, and among computer science students and faculty. Projects related to computers as instructional aids for students include those concerned with computers as basic communication aids for the disabled and computers as learning aids in specific content areas. The third category covers projects involving computers for educators, either helping educators to use computers or using computers for educational management. Research and evaluation projects summarized are concerned with computer use, evaluation of computer courseware and computer education activities, using the computer for basic research on learning, and using computers to retrieve or process research and development information. Multipurpose computer education projects are described in the final section. (LMM)
