Read All about It! Tutor Adults with Daily Newspaper. Leader Handbook.
Williams, Margaret; And Others
This handbook for leaders of workshops to teach tutors how to use newspapers in adult literacy education outlines the purpose and procedures of the workshops and provides some audiovisual materials. The materials are intended for use in a 2-hour tutor workshop designed to incorporate various teaching modes: lecture, discussion, questioning, hands-on experience, and large and small group interaction and activities. They are designed for use by volunteers who may or may not have formal teaching background or training. Sections outline the workshop objectives, materials needed, workshop organization and schedule, and step-by-step presentation schedule. A section on leaders' materials contains material for overhead transparencies, including class outlines for the tutors and visual materials for their use in instruction, such as advertisements and news stories. Appendices include notes on the relevance of the Adult Performance Level program to tutors, sample lesson plans to be used as transparencies, and a self-evaluation form. (MSE)
