A Resource Manual for the Development and Evaluation of Special Programs for Exceptional Students. Volume V-B MODELL: Music or Drama to Enhance Language Learning. Revised.
Polk County Public Schools, Bartow, FL.
The curriculum guide provides lesson plans on the use of music and drama as a means to develop language skills in handicapped children. The approach is based on theories of music educator, C. Orff. Lesson plans list objective, materials, and procedure information along with time requirements and directions. The first section details activities that can be used during breaks in the classroom. These activities focus on such aspects as days of the week, auditory motor skills, role sequencing, and gross motor activities. In section 2, approximately 75 developmental activities are described. The developmental activities include games, poems, action songs and verses, speech exercises, rhythmics, and dramatics. The third section presents lesson plans for holiday songs, poems, and dances. In the fourth section, examples are given on ways to expand the lesson plans. Activities are indexed by objectives. (CL)
