How States Rate: Measures of Educational Excellence.
Myers, Will S., Comp.
This report provides state-by-state data on several indicators of public school quality. Each state table contains numerical data, and ratings of a three-point scale, for the following: (1) student-teacher ratio, (2) average classroom teacher salary, (3) expenditure per student, (4) state-local revenue for public schools as percent of personal income, (5) percentage of total state-local expenditures allocated to local schools, and (6) high school graduation rate. The tables also compare states' English, mathematics, and science requirements with those recommended by the National Commission on Excellence in Education. A brief note describes each state's educational improvement activities. In Appendix A, a table for each of the above indicators shows data for the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Appendix B shows numbers of high school graduates and college-bound seniors, percentages of graduates taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and mean SAT scores. (MCG)
