Mensendick, Frosyne, Ed.
Thirteen papers presented at a 1983 Wyoming comference on special education are included. The first two papers describe approaches for controlling children's serious behavior problems. Approaches focus on generalized compliance training, a direct instruction program that seeks to extinguish inappropriate behavior. Additional topics include the following (sample subtopics in parentheses): facilitating parent-school cooperation; a social/behavioral curriculum for handicapped adolescents; a school-community vocational training program unsing microcomputer technology; computer networking with commercially prepared software; and a metacognitive approach to study strategies. Briefly summarized are presentations on psycho-social drama (an approach to deal with mental health issues), issues in adult developmental disabilities, preparation of the student for employment, and a transactional approach to early language training.
