Instructions and exercises on the use of checking accounts are provided for students in grades 6-12. The following topics are included: (1) reasons for opening a checking account; (2) how to open a checking account; (3) how to fill out deposit slips; (4) the elements of a check and how to write a check correctly; (5) checking account rules; (6) how to order personalized checks; (7) an explanation of service charges; (8) how to write out the amount of money in words on checks; and (9) how to use a check register. Exercises are included for interpreting and reconciling bank statements as well as for adding and subtracting money. A unit review, tests, test answers, suggestions for additional learning exercises, and a short bibliography are provided along with sample checks, deposit slips, a check register, and bank signature cards.
