This two-part document contains a spelling word list compiled by the Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools (California) for use in the California State Elementary Spelling Championship competition, along with information for planning and conducting spelling bees. The spelling bee planning material includes contest rules and regulations; additional explanations of applications of some of the rules for the judges' information; guidelines for conducting a spelling bee with a suggested agenda; a model for planning including obtaining sponsors, scheduling the preliminary and final events, and selecting the judging team; planning room "psychology" (room layout); a sample news release; and a four-page checklist for organizing the contest.
