The Technology Program for the Atlanta Partnership of Business & Education, Inc.
McCarson, Carole S.
The Technology Program of the Atlanta Partnership of Business and Education, Inc. is designed to enhance the economic development of Atlanta through the collaborative efforts of private business, public schools, and higher education. In an effort to incorporate these communities into a single organization, the technology program has established a network linking the following organizations and sectors: the Atlanta Public Schools Technology Quadrangle, private business, higher education, the Georgia Research Consortium, the Atlanta Public Schools Information Technology Commission, and funders. The first of these organizations, the Atlanta Public Schools Technology Quandrangle, consists of four magnet schools directly related to technology that offer preparation for college, postsecondary training, or immediate job entry. Originally conceived in an effort to make Georgia competitive with other states in terms of attracting high technology companies, the Georgia Research Consortium (GRC) is currently utilizing the pooled resources of three postsecondary Georgia educational institutions to identify high technology growth opportunities and to provide the financial support needed to establish centers of excellence in the research universities of Georgia. The role of the Atlanta Public Schools Information Technology Commission in the network is to develop and implement a plan for expanding the use of microcomputers throughout the Atlanta school system.
