This unit, one of six which comprise the Fair Play program, is designed to increase physical fitness and to improve self-concept and decision-making skills in relation to physical activity. The Fair Play program is a series of student and teacher materials the purpose of which is to help students expand their female or male self-concepts, increase their decision-making skills, and improve their academic achievement by changing their stereotypic attitudes toward particular content areas. This teaching guide includes a brief description of the total program, an overview of the content of this unit, recommendations for instructional approaches, descriptions of program materials, and a bibliography of print and audiovisual resources. The bulk of the guide consists of 29 lessons organized into three parts: (1) introduction to male and female differences in attitudes toward physical activity and development of positive attitudes in this area; (2) activities to enhance abilities and attitudes in six areas of physical fitness; and (3) post tests and personal decision making related to future physical activity.
